FutureQuest DreamHost

Personally Recommended Web Hosts:

  • FutureQuest — If FutureQuest had dedicated servers, and I had more money to spend, BuffyGuide.com would still be hosted there. FQ is a little pricier than the average run-of-the-mill host you'll run across in your searching, but you absolutely get what you pay for — if you can afford it, they are definitely worth it. My favorite thing about FQ is the technical support. I've been around the hosting block, and I've never seen a host that comes anywhere near matching the speed and quality of support at FQ.

More great things about FutureQuest — they're honest, straightforward, and communicative. Their forums are open to the public, and (unlike some web hosts' forums) the staff regularly provides help there, often in record time. Plus, the forums are frequented by plenty of helpful webmasters — I've learned quite a bit just browsing the FQ forums. They have fantastic features, including custom applications. Their servers are fast and extremely reliable (you can see their recent uptime here, on the left). They don't put restrictions on how you can use your disk space or your bandwidth.

I could go on and on, but I'll let you explore their site and community and discover for yourself. Click here for your FutureQuest!

  • DreamHost — This one offers both shared and dedicated hosting. Most of you are probably looking for shared hosting, and if you're looking for low price (lower than FutureQuest), DreamHost is a great value. I wouldn't recommend them as enthusiastically as I recommend FutureQuest, but I would recommend them without hesitation. Plus, their prices and features should keep almost anyone satisfied.

  • Rackspace.com — If you need dedicated hosting (a server all to yourself), and you can afford to get a full-service managed server, you can't go wrong with Rackspace. Excellent servers, excellent service, and excellent reliability. They are not cheap, but if you can spare the cash, they're worth it.

Other Web Hosts:

These are hosts that I personally have no experience with, but have read good things about. As with any purchase, you should do some research before making a decision.

  • LunarPages.com — Their basic package is a great deal at $6.95 per month, with extremely generous allotments of disk space and bandwidth, plus lots of extras.

  • Netfirms — Basic package for just $4.95 per month, or a bigger and better package for just $9.95 per month.

  • Your-Site.com — Good package for just $5.00 per month.
